THE RECORD CADDY AND GUILTY FEET - SOUL TO SOUL.
We've always loved a soulful tune or three at Guilty Feet. Dave's penchant for digging up lost reggae and dub records alongside those (n)ever-heard Brazilian things he finds has always sat comfortably alongside my tendency to give killer album cuts such as The Stylistics' People Make The World Go Round a spin alongside those timeless Quiet Storm moments and Loft classics.
And now we're gonna make a night of it...
Joining us for the April GUILTY FEET is local legend (by way of Australia) THE RECORD CADDY.
Anna has been one of my fave local DJs for ages. Blessed with impeccable taste in tunes and a chunky collection of soul, jazz, latin and funky stuff, Anna is gonna ease us into spring with sunshine sounds a-plenty.
Of course, when people ask the age-old question of "is it Balearic?" they're usually talking about 80s b-sides from Germany, sped up/slowed down Belgian new beat or wrong-speeder rave tunes... the soulful side of the sound gets to be pigeon-holed elsewhere.
It's simply a given that it's part of the b-word canon, even it it occupies a space in a cross-section of hastily titled sub-genres: Latin, jazzy, quiet storm or (whisper it in my presence cos it's a label I'm none too fond of) 'blue-eyed'. Whether it be hearing Jose play Marvin Gaye alongside Mr Marvin or Alfredo given regular spins to Sade, Prince and Gilberto Gil at Amnesia soul tunes were heard alongside all of the other sounds in Ibiza and, if you're lucky enough to catch one of the more discerning DJs over there, you can still hear them today.
Fortunately, you don't have to worry about the increasing cost of plane fares, nor the lack of cheap rooms on the island... you can come and catch the rays at the West Hill. We'll bring the tunes, you order yourself a cocktail.
Usual 6pm start. Dave Holloway (Do!!You!!! Radio) and I warming up/warming down. Pizzas available till 9pm. The hot one is really good.
